Why did no one teach me this?

I hear this question from clients a lot. The answer might be fairly simple. Either the parents/guardians in your life didn’t have the knowledge and skills themselves to teach you how to declutter and organize, or they did the work for you.
There’s also another reason you don’t know this stuff: you were not taught in school. We are not taught how to organize . . . or even what ‘organize’ means. But why not? If home, time, and calendar organization are so important to succeed in life, why doesn’t our education system make it a priority?
I don’t know the answer, but I have been seeing more emphasis on time management lately from the schools my children attend. So that’s encouraging.
The good news is it’s never too late to learn. The best day to get organized was yesterday, but the second-best day is today. You still have plenty of time to harness the power of time to get your house, life, and calendar organized.
Even if you are up to your eyeballs in clutter. Even if you grew up without an organized role model. Even if you’ve never read one magazine article about organizing your closet. Even if you are ashamed of your basement. Even if you feel like you can’t have friends over to your home.
There are no secrets to being an organized person or having an organized home or office. If you want to know more, start by perusing the nearly 150 blog posts on this website.
