When working with clients I come across gift cards frequently. These cards often get ‘lost’ in the home because they are for a store or restaurant the client doesn’t visit regularly.
We typically set the gift cards aside to check the balances later. Once the balances are known, clients often become overwhelmed by the question, "What to do with gift cards you are never going to use?"
I always suggest regifting first. You don’t have a Starbucks nearby? I bet you know five people who frequent Starbucks regularly and would love a $10 gift card.
Another popular option is online buy/sell sites such as CardCash.com. That’s right, you can 1) trade your unwanted gift cards for a vendor you love, or 2) sell them and get paid via check, ACH, or PayPal.
CardCash buys unwanted gift cards for less than their value and resells them at a discount to shoppers across the country. It is a great way to get cash for your unwanted gift cards, and to save money on all your purchases with discounted gift cards.
You can also donate your gift cards to local shelters and food pantries or donate your unused balance to the charity of your choice online.
We all know it’s the thought that counts, not the actual gift (card).
